Treatment of ADHD

The primary goal of assessment is not simply to obtain a list of scores, but rather to identify deficits and inform treatment planning. The best assessment tools go beyond cataloging strengths and weaknesses to provide direction in in developing interventions. The Conners 3 was carefully developed with this in mind. Information embedded in the Conners 3 provides keys to treatment planning in the school setting, including disability determination and individualized education program(IEP) development under the Individuals with disabilities Education Improvement Act(IDEA 2004) and information relevant to other U. S. federal legislation (e.g. 504 plans established under section 504 of the rehabilitation act of 1973). The Conners 3 global index (Conners 3GI) is very sensitive to treatment changes, which helps document whether an intervention has been effective. See chapter 7 in this manual for more detailed consideration of the usefulness of the Conners 3 in planning interventions and for developing educational plans. Overall the Conners 3 makes important contributions to both identification and intervention efforts.
